Coach Michael Köllner puts pressure on and finally calls for reinforcements in midfield.

Otherwise he sees the promotion of TSV 1860 to the second division in danger.

Munich – There were a few warm words for the travel group from Munich to say goodbye to Belek.

"Sixty good luck!" wished the ground staff before the lions boarded the plane heading home: "Hopefully become champions.

Better than Bavaria.” The SunExpress employee put on his friendliest smile.

Michael Köllner's face was not quite as friendly when he held the last media round of the seven-day Turkey training camp an hour earlier.

The view out of the window encouraged him in his choice of winter home: "We had sun every day, from today it's raining heavily - we caught exactly the right time." In the course of the conversation, however, it became clear: Köllner has a neck.

"And in the end it's said that the coach screwed it up if we only finished fourth again."

Michael Köllner on the stalemate around Raphael Holzhauser.

It seethes in him - not because of his existing players, who would have pulled along great.

But because one was not there: "Mister X" for position 8, on which Köllner apparently made the success of his promotion mission dependent.

He said: "And in the end it's said that the coach screwed it up if we only finished fourth again."

That suggested deep-seated frustration – and indeed: the longer Köllner talked, the more bitter he sounded.

It is acutely about Raphael Holzhauser, whom he would like to have incorporated into the existing team.

The lions had previously tried to find Lukas Rupp, just as unsuccessfully.

Regarding the stalemate around Holzhauser, he said: "I'm not aware of any new status.

We wanted to sign an eight in the summer, but then put it off until winter.

Now it's winter - and the eight is still not here.

I think: If you haven't fulfilled your managerial tasks, it's far-fetched to classify us as a safe climber." Sports manager Günther Gorenzel, who boarded the plane before Köllner, felt addressed.

Whereby Köllner avoided forgiving the role of scapegoat.

Rather, he once again pointed out that the "need for action" in the 8-position had been identified early on.

“We have a good team, no question.

Our game works throughout the year, otherwise we wouldn't have scored the most points in 2022.

At a certain point, however, the quality of the players comes into play.” In short: “We have a leader vacuum in midfield and are sparsely occupied in a crucial position.”

"In the end we're missing a quality player.

Coal is said to be there, both shareholders say: We can make the transfer.

But we don't bring the player here, for whatever reason."

The consequence of this for Köllner: He feels compelled to continue improvising.

Marius Wörl is an 18-year-old talent "whom we are now putting the responsibility on his shoulders", Martin Kobylanski is a trained tener for whom the question of fitness "is not yet 100 percent clear".

Adapting the system to the players is not an option for Köllner, as he emphasized when asked.

TSV 1860 Munich: Coach Michael Köllner is missing "a quality player" in the squad

He didn't go into detail about the cause of Kobylanski's fitness problem, actually a trainer issue.

And Erik Tallig is now more of a winger for Köllner (which he made the central midfielder into himself).

For the coach it is clear: "In the end we are missing a quality player.

Coal is said to be there, both shareholders say: We can make the transfer.

But we don't bring the player here, for whatever reason."

Sounds like Köllner has already given up hope that the lions can still tear something.

"If you have to hope in football, it's bad," he grumbles: "Of course you can say: Okay, we'll keep it up until the summer.

But then I say: The probability that we will be among the top three teams is significantly lower.” (
