The schedule for the athletics competitions at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 was approved today (Tuesday) by the World Athletics Federation.
The athletics activity at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 will span 11 days, starting with the 20 km walking events on Thursday, August 1, and ending, as announced earlier, with the women's marathon on the last day of the Games, Sunday, August 11.
In between, the athletics competition will be held during 17 meetings at the Stade de France stadium.
Unlike the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, all track finals will be held in the evening sessions, while the road events will be held in the mornings, on four different days.
Athletes wishing to participate in the 100 and 200 meters, 800 meters and 1500 meters, 1500 meters and 5000 meters, or 5000 meters and 10,000 meters will be able to do so, without having to compete in more than one event on any given day.
Other possible doubles include long jump and triple jump, and 20km and 35km walks.
The first track medals will be awarded during the first evening meeting, on Friday August 2, which will end with the men's 10,000m final.
The women's triple jump, the men's shot put and the women's 100m final will take place on the second day,
As announced last year, a playoff in all individual track events from 200m to 1500m, including the hurdles, will be introduced at the Olympic Games for the first time in Paris 2024. In the new playoff format, athletes who did not qualify for the first round in the 200m to 1500m heats will have a second chance to qualify for the semis the final by participating in the second round.
As of today, two Israeli athletes have set the criterion for Paris, and they are marathon runners Luna Chemtai Salpeter and Maru Tefri.
