Zoff in the Austrian Ski Association: The new management team criticizes their predecessors - and in turn has to take harsh criticism.

Innsbruck – The Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) is seething.

In the World Cup, both the men and, above all, the women are chasing the world leaders this season.

In addition to this sporting crisis, there is also a tangible dispute between the old and new leadership of the winter sports association.

In the men's overall standings, the Austrians are far behind the high-flyer Marco Odermatt from Switzerland.

However, it is even worse for the women.

The ÖSV was only able to claim one podium finish there this season, when Katharina Liensberger finished third in the slalom in Killington (USA).

All this is far too little for the demands of the otherwise so spoiled by success Austrians.

Reason enough for the management team of the ÖSV to start a tangible dispute with the predecessors.

Austrian Ski Association in upheaval after withdrawing from Schröcks Nadel

From 1990 to 2021, the Austrian entrepreneur Peter Schröcks Nadel (81) was President of the ÖSV - he now works for the International Ski Federation FIS.

His successor Karl Schmidhofer resigned after just 100 days after a private stroke of fate.

This was followed by the former ski racer Roswitha Stadlober (59), who had previously been the association's vice president.

Since Schröcksnadel's withdrawal, the ÖSV has been in a state of upheaval, and numerous personal details have been exchanged.

One of them is finance officer Patrick Ortlieb, who is considered the new string puller in the association.

He argued against Schröcksnadel, who would have left his successors with a mess.

In addition, the coaching staff of the ÖSV is far too large.

There was strong opposition from runners and coaches.

Schröcks Nadel: "It would be best for ÖSV if Patrick Ortlieb stayed in the kitchen"

Schröcks Nadel then hit back with no less pithy words.

"It would be best for the ÖSV if Patrick Ortlieb stayed in the kitchen and gave up all his functions in the association.

Otherwise he'll break it," he told the

.

Background: Ortlieb runs a hotel in addition to his association work.

"I read that he has to help out in the kitchen at the hotel.

How is someone who doesn't have their own business under control supposed to lead the association?” Schröcks Nadel continues to tease.

“The new management has more or less replaced the entire management team.

With Toni Giger, Patrick Riml, Edi Unterberger and Christian Mitter, four top players were let go.

And there is no company that can handle such a bloodletting without leaving a trace,” the 81-year-old explains the sporting failures.

It is the next serious crisis that the Austrian Ski Association is maneuvering itself into.

Recently there had been headlines about the sudden resignation of Olympic champion Matthias Mayer.

A few weeks ago, the racer announced his immediate retirement after a World Cup.
