Preuss also misses Ruhpolding – epidemic season makes her “absolutely at a loss”

Biathlete Franziska Preuss did not get fit in time for the home World Cup in Ruhpolding either.

Ruhpolding - It's like bewitched.
For the second season in a row, Franziska Preuss is struggling with her health.
Last year, the German biathlete threatened to miss the 2022 Olympics due to a foot injury, this winter she is suffering from an infection for the third time.
That's why she won't be able to start at the World Cup in Ruhpolding either, and the time until the home World Championships in Oberhof is getting short.
“Unfortunately I can't start in Slovenia.
Last week I got a fever, a sore throat, a snotty nose and a persistent cough,” Preuss wrote on Instagram before the first World Cup weekend of the year.
She hopes that the blood values will fit again as soon as possible and that she can start training again.
"It's bitter and I'm absolutely at a loss.
But as the saying goes: New year, new luck.”

But it wasn't enough for Ruhpolding.
Her goal for the season is still the Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof, which is apparently why she will be rested on the upcoming World Cup weekend.
So the hope that she will be fully recovered by the start of the World Cup on February 8th is still there.
Even Vanessa Hinz, who had to fight an infection before the first races of the year, is not in the squad of the DSV ski hunters.

Thus, Denise Herrmann-Wick, Anna Weidel, Vanessa Voigt, Sophia Schneider and Janina Hettich-Walz will tackle the competitions in the Chiemgau Arena.
In addition, Juliane Frühwirt returns to the World Cup team from the IBU Cup.
The big goal: better results than in Slovenia.
There the German biathlon team had remained without a podium place for the first time.

Meanwhile, the organizers in Ruhpolding are fighting for the route for the Biathlon World Cup.
High temperatures and rain don't make it easy to prepare the route.
"It's really bad, my heart bleeds when I'm there and see how nature is just waking up as if it were already spring," said Olympic champion Denise Herrmann-Wick of the
dpa.
“We are all trembling and looking forward to the home World Cup.
We hope the conditions are cool, but it looks really sad.” According to the IBU, the races should not be in danger.
