Mexican club Cruz Azul have suspended captain Julio Cesar 'Cata' Dominguez for three matches and will fine him after throwing his son a Narcos-themed birthday party.
The former Mexico international was already left out of the squad for Sunday's 1-1 league draw with Tijuana because of the controversy surrounding photos of the party that went viral on social media.
The Mexican league, Cross Azul and quite a few members of the media condemned the veteran defender, who has since apologized.
Dominguez, 35, said in a video statement that "it was a mistake" and accepted that the images made Mexicans uncomfortable.
đ Hay que ser PENDE*JO
to organize a children's party with the theme of drug trafficking đĄHay que estar el double de PENDE*JO to expose the shield of your team
đ€ŹHay que estar el triple de PENDE*JO to expose it on Redes

Sources told ESPN that Cross Azul would not disclose the amount of the player's fine for security reasons.
Dominguez will miss Saturday's home league game against Reyados de Monterrey and the trip to Naxa on January 21.
