After the weak World Cup, personnel changes at the DFB should bring about a turnaround.
According to a report, Rudi Völler could succeed Oliver Bierhoff.
Frankfurt am Main – The German Football Association is looking forward to a fresh start after the weak performance at the World Cup.
After the German national team was eliminated from the preliminary round in Qatar, the association terminated the contract with long-time DFB director Oliver Bierhoff and installed a five-person task force with a view to the 2024 home European Championship.
With Rudi Völler, one of the advisors from the working group could now take on a post at the DFB, as also reported by tz.de.

Rudi Völler: Long-standing Leverkusen managing director acted as Bierhoff's successor
At the beginning of December, the DFB announced that it would prematurely end the employment relationship with Oliver Bierhoff after eighteen years.
Since then, some candidates have been traded as successors to the director and later managing director of the national teams and the academy.
Prominent names such as Fredi Bobic, Matthias Sammer and Per Mertesacker subsequently circulated in the media.
According to a report by

, former DFB team boss Rudi Völler, who unexpectedly led the national team to the final in 2002, is said to be one of the candidates for the job.
From 1996 to 2000 and from 2005 onwards, Völler held various management positions at Bayer Leverkusen and made a name for himself both as a sporting director and as managing director, even after his successful active career.

He didn't want to talk about retirement just yet
However, it is questionable whether Völler would accept a possible offer from the DFB.

The signs were then more on retirement, even if he did not want to confirm this himself.
"If you've been in the sport as long as I have, you don't retire completely.
I'm certainly not going to sit idle," Völler told the

in May on the subject of retirement.
After all, he is still involved as a club representative and as a member of the Leverkusen shareholders' committee.
Rudi Völler is already part of the DFB task force.

Together with ex-Bayern boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, BVB advisor Matthias Sammer, Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff and the current FC Bayern boss Oliver Kahn, Völler is currently forming the task force that, after the preliminary round in Qatar, was called to life.
Whether Völler would also take on an operational job at the DFB instead of the job as a consultant remains to be seen.

Already between 2000 and 2004 Völler unexpectedly became team manager of the German national team, under his leadership Germany became vice world champion in 2002, but was eliminated two years later at the European Championships in the group phase.
The former international striker knows that a senior post in the association would not relieve the pressure.
However, the charismatic world champion of 1990 has a lot of experience in the football business and could spark new euphoria before the important home tournament next year.
