Ligue 2: Sochaux refuses to postpone the match against Caen scheduled for the day of the funeral of Stéphane Moulin's wife

Despite the agreement of the League and beIN Sports, the Sochaux club advances logistical difficulties not to postpone the match scheduled for Saturday

It is a decision that the club struggles to justify.

Sochaux explains this Thursday that he refuses to postpone the reception of Caen in Ligue 2, scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Doubs.

A request made by the Norman club after the death of the wife of its trainer, Stéphane Moulin, announced Wednesday evening.

Armelle Moulin's funeral is indeed scheduled for the same day, in the morning.

But if the Professional Football League (LFP) and the match broadcaster beIN Sports have given their agreement, the blockage came from Franche-Comté.

“The entire FCSM sympathizes with the immense pain felt by Stéphane Moulin and his loved ones.

He would have liked to be able to follow up on SM Caen's request to change the day or the time of the meeting of the 19th day of Ligue 2 BKT between the two teams, ”says the press release.

"Faced with the need to very quickly have to agree on a new program and in view of what this entails in terms of organization (and in particular the difficulty in mobilizing the appropriate control and security personnel), the FCSM had to unfortunately resolve to have the match played on Saturday January 14 at 3 p.m. ”, adds the Doubien club, explaining that it has offered to organize a minute of silence in tribute to Armelle Moulin before the kick-off of the meeting.

Caen owner denounces "pathetic behavior"

If for the time being the Norman club has not officially responded to the Sochaux positioning, its owner has taken care of it.

“Football is first and foremost a game. Clubs are families.

Unfortunately, as long as some forget it, we will continue to see pathetic behavior, denounced on Twitter Pierre-Antoine Capton, boss of the audiovisual group Mediawan.

Thank you for the support of all the other clubs in Ligue 1, Ligue 2, the LFP and beIN Sports.

Many supporters of the Norman club denounced the refusal of Sochaux on social networks.

Another Ligue 2 formation, Niort, posted a message on Twitter "following the FCSM's decision" to "give its full support to SM Caen, the family and loved ones of Stéphane Moulin".

The latter has been in withdrawal since December 22 to accompany his wife in her fight against the disease.

He had left his place on the bench to his assistant Patrice Sauvaget.
