Matthias Holderried has reached the Bundesliga final with SV Waldkirch.

He shot well in the final competition, but was also a tragic hero.

Scheuring – When “Rammstein” sounds, Matthias Holderried really gets going.

While "You have" sounds from the boxes in the Lechrainhalle, the air pistol shooter from Tannenberg hits a ten after the other.

It's five for six shots.

The fans of SV Waldkirch are happy - with ratchets rattling, bells ringing and shouts, every result that is displayed on the big screen in deep red is cheered.

At the end of the second series, Holderried made up for the small gap to his opponent from KKS Hambrücken, Robin Walter.

As a result, both national team members, in third place, are going head-to-head at a high level.

At the very end, Walter unpacks another series of ten that Holderried can no longer counter.

With 381:384 points, the Tannenberger had to admit defeat - and left the shooting range with a tormented smile.

Matthias Holderried experienced three exciting competitions in position

Matthias Holderried was something like the tragic hero of SV Waldkirch at the last competition weekend of the 1. Bundesliga Süd.

Both against the hosts SG Scheuring and against Hambrücken, he of all people caught the shooter who shot the opponent the best by far.

Holderried had two defeats that were annoying and unfortunate at the same time.

For classification: In all other positions, Holderried's results - 377 points against Scheuring, 381 against Hambrücken - would have been enough for a win in the respective matches.

Narrow win against Hambrücken secures third place

As far as the team balance is concerned, the 27-year-old was absolutely satisfied: "We have all achieved our goals." After the narrow 2:3 defeat against Scheuring on Saturday, it was already clear that SV Waldkirch was no longer out because of the individual points to oust the top four of the southern squadron.

So the Bundesliga final was done.

And with the 3:2 victory over Hambrücken, the Edelweiß-Schützen made sure that they finish the round in third place.

A defeat on Sunday would have given them fourth place and thus the absolute top team in the northern season, SV Kriftel (22:0) in the quarter-finals of the final tournament.

Overall, Holderried left Scheuring satisfied: "It was two tough competitions with a lot of fighting, but there was a happy ending," was his conclusion.

With his two results he was "satisfied in view of the circumstances".

At the same time, the sports soldier emphasized: "You always want to win."

Fan bus to the Bundesliga final

Provided there are enough registrations, a fan bus from Gau Schongau will drive to the Bundesliga final (February 3rd to 5th) in the "Ratiopharm Arena" in Neu-Ulm.

Registrations are now being accepted by the 1st Gau rifle master Klaus Strauß (telephone 08867-1753; klaus.strauss@t-online.de).

Registration closes on January 19th.

The exact departure times and stops will be announced later.

The conditions in the Lechrainhalle did not make it easy for those involved.

Although there are guidelines that must be met in Bundesliga competitions, there are also freedoms.

The cover behind the targets was covered with a dark gray cloth.

"It's not a bright stand," Holderried said.

Not everyone got along well with it.

The results of the other shooters “speak for my assessment”.

Ole-Harald Aas (Norway), number one in SV Waldkirch, only had 374 points on the first day, had to play off against Schering's Dusko Petrov and won there (9:8).

On the second day, Aas fought again, interrupted the competition for a longer time, but won with 380:375.

Concentrated on the stand: Matthias Holderried (2nd from left) in the competition against KKS Hambrücken, in which he scored 381 points.

On Saturday, against Scheuring, Matthias Holderried was confronted with his training and national team colleague David Probst.

The lead kept changing between the two.

"It was extremely exciting for the fans," said Holderried.

There were also numerous visitors from the Schongauer Gau in the crowded hall.

"I was really happy about that," said Tannenberger.

The shooters themselves perceive such a close duel differently: "It's not so great at the shooting range," said Holderried with a smile.

In the end he had to admit defeat to Probst with 377:379.

Michael Holderried, shooting from position five, also went empty-handed.

In the 364:366 against Henrik Balg, Matthias Holderried's brother was assigned the position on the far right of the wall.

The cramped conditions there may have played a role in the competition,

By the way: everything from the region is also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.

And in our Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.

Matthias Holderried pretty much reached his seasonal average the next day against Hambrücken.

So he couldn't blame himself much.

Meanwhile, competitor Walter shot significantly better than in most competitions before.

Lea Kleesattel, who took fifth place in Michael Holderried's place, made the 3:2 success perfect.

As the last shooter, she was still on the range;

an 8.6 on the 40th shot was enough to win by 374-372.

Aas (380:375) and Sebastian Kugelmann (375:368) scored the other points for Waldkirch.

Before the Bundesliga final (February 3rd to 5th), the Waldkirchers are holding a kind of training camp, also to promote team building again.

In the quarter-finals, the third-placed team meets SV Bassum, who finished second in the Nordstaffel (16:6).

The other pairings are (southern clubs named first): Sgi Waldenburg – SV Kriftel;

ESV Weil/Rhein – Freischütz Wathlingen;

SV Kelheim-Gmünd – SV GK Hannover.

Matthias Holderried has another important individual event coming up next weekend: the qualification for the European Championships in Estonia will be held in Wiesbaden.

The best will be determined over 3 x 60 shots, who will then be allowed to compete in Tallinn in March.
