The Stüberl Cup is back.

After a two-year break, the big fun indoor football tournament is returning to the Würmtal - and according to the organizers it will be better than the World Cup in Qatar.

Stockdorf/Gauting – He's back.

"Finally again," emphasizes Korbinian Halmich.

We are talking about the Stüberl Cup, the big Würmtal Gaudi indoor tournament, which has been organized regularly by TV Stockdorf in the Gautinger Mittelschulhalle (Birkenstraße) for more than ten years and attracts a number of footballers from the Würmtal and numerous fans every year.

11th Stüberl Cup 2023 on Saturday, January 14th

This year, too, the crowd among the teams was great, as Halmich reports, who is once again in charge of organizing the 11th Stüberl Cup this Saturday, January 14th, for the men's area in Stockdorf.

"There are ten teams, but we had many more requests," says the long-time player and coach of the TVS.

The longing among the footballers in the Würmtal is great, says Halmich.

This is not least due to the fact that the tournament could not take place in the past two years due to corona.

The last edition was the anniversary tournament in 2020, since then the felt ball with which the Stüberl Cup is traditionally played - and advertised - has been on hold.

"Honest football with the good old felt ball," writes the club in its announcement on social media.

TV Stockdorf on the Stüberl Cup 2023: "Better tournament" than the World Cup in Qatar

There, the TVS social media team also insisted on handing out one or two digs at the World Cup in Qatar, which ended in mid-December.

"We're going to put on a better tournament on January 14th," reads the description of the event, as does "cold drinks instead of air conditioning," "real fans," or "a beer pong area with more tradition than the Qatari national team." .

A very special atmosphere that many footballers from the Würmtal are sure to look forward to again.

Robert Frank, chairman of TV Stockdorf, about the Stüberl Cup

Robert Frank, first chairman of TV Stockdorf, says: "We are pleased that the Stüberl Cup is finally taking place again after the Corona break." The replacement small field tournament in the summer was part of the 111th anniversary of the TVS nice, "but the variant in the hall has an even greater tradition and a very special atmosphere, which I'm sure many footballers from the Würmtal are looking forward to again," says Frank.

Stüberl Cup 2023: Top-class field with all previous winners

It is well known that the Stüberl Cup is more about the social component than the sporting ambition.

And yet, ultimately, all teams compete to lift the trophy.

Accordingly, all previous winners are also part of the party this year: defending champion Vino della Casa from TSV Neuried, the disco boys (SV Planegg-Krailling), with three titles record winners, the two-time winner Drunken City Tigers (TSV Pentenried), the two previous Stockdorfers Winner SpVgg Hasenbergl/Neuperlach (two titles) and Offensive Würmtal as well as the old men's syndicate from Pentenried, Stockdorf and Graefelfing, which this year competes under the name PSG.

The field is filled by the Wolfsrudel (Gautinger SC), Gaffel Kölsch (Mix from the Würmtal), the TV Stockdorf Allstars and FC Pain Mountains Aua, a leisure team from Munich, which is participating in the Stüberl Cup for the first time this year.

Wherever you look in the Würmtal, the desire for this event is very high.

Korbinian Halmich, main organizer of the Stüberl Cup

Korbinian Halmich will play for Offensive Würmtal again this year.

He is full of anticipation and has also observed this in many other participants.

"Whenever I've met someone in the last few weeks - by chance or planned - it became clear: wherever you look in the Würmtal, the desire for this event is very great," says the 33-year-old.

Although Halmich emphasizes that the preparations are now very routine.
