EC Peiting has only won one of the last six games.

"The boys realized that we have something to lose," fears coach Anton Saal.

Peiting

- And again the EC Peiting went empty handed.

The top division ice hockey club lost 3-2 at home against Deggendorfer SC on Friday – five of the last six games ended in defeat.

“The phase we are in right now is not good.

We're in a hole," said ECP coach Anton Saal after the game.

"We have to work on ourselves to get out of this."

It won't be easy, Saal admitted.

"The boys realized we had something to lose," he said.

"We cramp.

Some want to bang their heads against the wall, others want to force it.” The fight for sixth place, which means taking part in the play-offs, is tough.

The coveted rank still belongs to the ECP - but the competition is putting pressure on it.

Saal doesn't want to make the situation a big issue, and softens it down.

"We have to think game by game," he says.

"It's a mind thing."

Squad is slowly filling up again

After all, the squad is filling up more and more.

Players such as Sam Payeur and Fabian Weyrich, who were injured recently, are back on the ice.

It will probably take a few more games before they find their old strength again – but the main round still runs until March 5th.

Despite all the disappointment after the game on Friday: Peitinger did not present themselves badly against Deggendorf.

The extremely fair game initially went back and forth without any major interruptions – there was not a single penalty in the first third.

But after about 15 minutes the first goal: After ECP goalie Florian Hechenrieder had parried several shots from Deggendorfer, Petr Stloukal's shot finally landed.

The Peitingen defense had previously left Lukas Miculka alone in front of the goal, so that he was able to put on his teammate wonderfully.

Pressure up to the last second

After the break, Hechenrieder was under fire for a few minutes, but the goalie was always there.

In the event of a counterattack, Marco Niewollik was able to equalize for Peiting.

When the referees awarded the game's first two-minute penalty in the 34th minute, the ECP were outnumbered but couldn't take advantage.

The Deggendorfer did it better shortly afterwards when Alexander Winkler had to go into the cool box because of a trip.

In the power play, Marcel Pfänder made it 2-1 for the guests - and Peiting had to start the last third with a deficit.

The hosts put the pressure on.

With a majority, Peitingen had several chances: Marc Besl, Felix Brassard and Thomas Heger tested Deggendorf's goalie Timo Pielmeier, who had the upper hand.

Negligent handling of the opportunities was punished.

In the 47th minute, DSC defender Ondrej Pozivil pulled from the blue line, Hechenrieder saved the shot, the rebound landed on Sascha Maul, who made it 3-1 for Deggendorf.

In the final phase, ECP coach Saal took goalie Hechenrieder off the ice in favor of a sixth field player.

Peiting really put his foot down offensively – courage was rewarded, Heger reduced the lead to 2:3.

There were still 61 seconds to play.

As a result, the ECP was close to equalizing - but the puck never got in.

And so Peiting remained without points.

Well deserved, as Saal himself admitted: "Deggendorf was the better team for over 60 minutes today."
