The death of Rosi Mittermaier moved many people, especially in her home country.

The children's clinic in Garmisch-Partenkirchen also mourns the ski icon in a moving message.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen – More than a week has passed since the death of ski legend Rosi Mittermaier, on January 4th she succumbed to her short, severe cancer.

As her family announced the day after her death, she "fell asleep peacefully surrounded by her family".

The reactions to the sad news have not stopped since then, and two institutions also expressed their sympathy this weekend.

Rosi Mittermaier: The German Ski Association mourns the loss of two-time Olympic champion

The German Ski Association placed an obituary notice in the print edition of tz.

"When the sun of life goes down, the stars of memory shine," the association introduced the emotional message for the deceased winter sports star.

"With Rosi Mittermaier, the ski family loses an extraordinary personality.

Rosi Mittermaier was a human soul.

We mourn the loss of a great role model and are with her in these difficult hours with our sympathy and our thoughts,” wrote the DSV together with the “Freunde des Skisports eV” and the “Foundation for Safety in Skiing”.

But not only the sports association mourned the death of the two-time Olympic gold medalist from 1976.

Rosi Mittermaier died at the age of 72.

Rosi Mittermaier: Children's Clinic Garmisch-Partenkirchen sends a touching expression of grief

A medical facility also issued a special statement of grief for Mittermaier: the children's clinic in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

"With all her heart and outstanding commitment, Rosi Mittermaier always supported the interests of chronically ill children and their families," wrote the hospital and thanked the Munich native for her many years of charitable work.

“Our patients have always been a matter close to her heart.

For several decades she has supported our rheumatism children's clinic in many ways as patron of the German Children's Rheumatism Foundation and inspired children, young people, parents and the clinic team at numerous events and campaigns," the newspaper advertisement continued.

"We will always honor her memory.

Our deepest sympathy goes to her husband and family.”

The Garmisch-Partenkirchen Children's Hospital thanked her for Rosi Mittermaier's great commitment with an obituary notice.

Rosi Mittermaier: Ski legend was known for her social streak

Mittermaier was not only a two-time Olympic champion and three-time Olympic participant, but also won a silver medal in the giant slalom at the Winter Games.

There were also three gold medals at the Alpine World Ski Championships and numerous individual awards. In 1976, for example, she was voted Germany's Sportswoman of the Year.

In 2018 she received the Bavarian Sports Award of the Century for her achievements.

In addition to her sporting successes, "Gold-Rosi", as she was often called because of her medal wins, was known for her social streak.

In 1997, for example, she was appointed national ambassador for sport, tolerance and fair play and in the years that followed became involved in a variety of good causes.

She took over the patronage of the German Children's Rheumatism Foundation around 1999, and Felix Neureuther's mother was also an ambassador for the initiative against bone loss.

She also supported the Christoffel Mission for the Blind together with her husband Christian Neureuther and traveled to Nepal and Tanzania, among other places.
