Volleyball Bayern league SC Freising is the clear favorite on paper.

But be careful: Opponent MTV Rosenheim landed a real coup before Christmas.

Freising

– Looking at the standings, the SC Freising volleyball players (third) are clearly the favorites in the home game against MTV Rosenheim (ninth).

But the guests caught their attention in the last game before the Christmas break and sensationally defeated the unbeaten leaders of the Bayernliga Süd, SG Bayerwald Volleys, 3-0.

"So that could be an exciting and very attractive game on Sunday afternoon," suspects Freising coach Alex Oestmann.

It starts at 3 p.m. in the sports hall on Moosstraße.

In terms of potential, it was clear that SCF would be counted among the narrower circle of favorites after its voluntary withdrawal from the regional league into the Bavarian league.

The current third place in the table behind SG Bayerwald Volleys and the highly rated TSV TB Munich is therefore not surprising.

However, if you take into account the long lists of sick and injured people in the previous games, you have to take your hat off to the Freisingers.

In the last match before Christmas against SC Vierkirchen (3-0), even Dejan Jankovic from the second team had to help out due to a lack of staff.

World champion in improvisation

“We were really good at improvising,” coach Oestmann looks back on the season so far.

“Many players had to play in positions that were unfamiliar to them.

For example Maximilian Winter, who served the team in an exemplary manner.

Everyone helped everyone here," said the coach, impressed by the character of his players.

The fact that the Freising volleyball players have only lost three games under these conditions is remarkable.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

The personnel situation seems to have stabilized somewhat over the Christmas break.

Leander Liebl (sick) and Lukas Viebahn (work abroad) are not on board on Sunday afternoon.

However, Oestmann has become cautious due to his experience.

Players often called in sick at short notice.

But of course he hopes that he can go into the home game against MTV Rosenheim with a "completely normal" starting lineup.

Rosenheim comes with a lot of self-confidence

A strong SCF team will also need it to keep the guests in check.

Freising won the first leg 3-1, but after their coup against Bayerwald Volleys, Rosenheim should have a lot of self-confidence in Freising.

"We were already challenged in the first leg," said Oestmann.

"As soon as we eased off the gas a little bit, they were immediately on top and won the set."
