Rosi Mittermaier has left the big stage forever.

Her death moved countless people.

There were very special words from her family on parting.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen - The year could not have started more sadly for winter sports fans.

Ski legend Rosi Mittermaier passed away on January 4, 2023.

The double Olympic champion suffered from cancer, only very few knew about her serious illness.

Typical Rosie.

She never wanted to be a star, never wanted to be the center of attention, never wanted the limelight.

This humility and modesty characterized her throughout her life.

What remains after her death are many, many positive memories.

Rosi Mittermaier is dead: the memories remain

For example, the marriage between Rosi Mittermaier and Christian Neureuther, which lasted to the end.

Or that son Felix, who later became a successful skier himself, didn't even know for a long time that his parents were extremely successful.

What you will probably remember for a long time: Rosi Mittermaier's anecdote about the postman who had to deliver 27,000 letters from fans in one month.

Mittermaier and her family had a great time together.

This also becomes clear when you look at the obituary that was recently published in the Munich newspaper Merkur.

At the farewell there are touching words from Christian, Ameli and Felix Neureuther.

A classic of world literature helps here: Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's story "The Little Prince".

The ad says:

"Are you afraid of death?" Rosi Mittermaier's family says goodbye with a touching advertisement in Merkur

"Are you afraid of death?" the little prince asked the rose.

To which she replied: "But no.

After all, I lived, I flourished and used my strength as much as I could.

And love, given a thousandfold, returns to the one who gave it.

So I want to wait for the new life and wither without fear and despair."

Under this passage there is another song of thanks from the Inntaler singers:

"Thank you for every day that gives us good health.

Thank you for every joy, where you think about it.

Asking that you walk with us, today and always.

Asking for blessings from above until eternity."

Finally, Christian Neureuther, Ameli Neureuther with Oskar, Miri and Felix Neureuther with Matilda, Leo and Lotta remain "in love".

The core message of the ad: Rosi Mittermaier had a full life, gave love and received love.

In addition to the family, there were and are many other farewells to Rosi Mittermaier.

A number of companions paid tribute to the ski legend after her death.
