First publication:

A month after the successful hosting of the Judo Masters in Jerusalem, the Tel Aviv Grand Slam that is supposed to take place in mid-February is in danger of cancellation, this after the budgets promised by the Ministry of Sports have partially arrived.

"Israel Hayom" learned that the union should have received 6 million NIS from the Ministry of Sports for the event, but in practice only 2.7 arrived, which makes it impossible to make payments to suppliers, hotels and even to open the sale of tickets and puts the existence of the competition into question.

It should be remembered that the Israeli association and its chairman, Moshe Ponti, intend to bring the world championship to Israel in the coming years, and the cancellation of the Grand Slam, which is a high point in the Olympic ranking on the way to the games in Paris 2024, could damage the trust given to Israel over the years by the World Judo Federation (IJF) and the standing With his permission, Marius Wieser.

Ponti said: "We are working day and night to prepare the Grand Slam, but as soon as the promised budgets did not reach us, we will not be able to hold the event, which could damage our relationship with the IJF, and also our athletes, who proved just last month in Jerusalem how important it is to compete against The home crowd."

"I know that the new minister Miki Zohar will do everything in his power to ensure that the Grand Slam takes place as it should, and that we continue to prepare calmly for the Grand Slam and another series of events that we intend to bring in the coming years."
