EHC Klostersee gets a point against Lindau in the ice hockey Oberliga-Süd, but struggles with the exploitation of chances.

Grafing

– EHC Klostersee earned a deserved point on Sunday evening in the 2-1 draw against the Lindau Islanders after extra time.

Of course, even more would have been possible for Grafinger if they had used their first-class opportunities in the last third.

"We want to continue the performance of two days ago," explained EHC coach Dominik Quinlan, referring in particular to the formidable performance of his red-whites in the first two periods of the game against leader Weiden.

With almost the same squad, the EHC head coach decided, as at the beginning in Weiden, to switch outsiders in rows one and two.

Marc Bosecker and Jordy Stallard swapped their offensive formation, so to speak.

Guest coach John Sicinski made it clear before the first face-off that he expected his Islanders to “react” to the previously poor performance.

With the 2:5 in a direct duel, Lindau lost further ground to the Passau Black Hawks in the fight for tenth place and thus their participation in the pre-playoffs.

The initial phase in the Grafinger Wildbräu barn was rather incoherent, with many passes that were not well timed on both sides and thus frequently changing possession of the puck.

Almost five minutes had passed before Dominik Hattler in the EVL box had to stretch for the first time after a direct acceptance by Felix Kaller after preparatory work by Vili Vesalainen.

The Islanders goalkeeper, behind the injured top dog Matthias Nemec and the two intended as "first" backups but not available funding license goalies, had been identified as a possible weak point at the EHC.

In the first half, however, he was able to fend off all of the half-dozen shots that were fired at his goal.

A defender from Lindau cleaned up Grafinger's greatest chance, a two-on-one situation by Vitus Gleixner and Simon Roeder (14').

Shortly before that, the guests had worked out the lead, four seconds before the end of the penalty time on the power play (12th).

With the EHClers just behind, the break started, during which the almost 600 spectators were entertained by the Klosterseer U7 talents.

In the meantime, the three unnecessary and avoidable suspensions were certainly an issue in the host cabin.

In the second half, Simon Roeder initially missed the equalizer after a pass from Vesalainen (23').

Marinus Schunda in the EHC box prevented the higher deficit after almost 30 minutes with a "Big Save" against Alexander Dosch.

Shortly thereafter, Lynnden Pastachak failed with a solo effort outnumbered (32nd).

In the end, the closely fought middle third remained goalless.

With only four defenders left and small changes in the three attacking formations, the Klosterseer immediately put a lot of pressure on in the last 20 minutes of the game.

Philipp Quinlan just failed to equalize in the 41st minute.

The 1:1 was then reserved for Matthias Baumhackl with his first goal of the season, who scored with a wrist flick from the left winger into the right angle (49th).

Klostersee's Canadian Lynnden Pastachak had the possible threesome two seconds before the end of regular time.

Lindau's goalkeeper was already outplayed, but the puck just missed the post.

In overtime, the Islanders again used a superior number to score the game-winning goal (65th).
