In the playoff game against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Jacksonville Jaguars were on the verge of losing possession after five turnovers in the first half. Then their quarterback played big and led the team to a historic victory.

The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Los Angeles Chargers in one of the greatest playoff comebacks in NFL history.

After being 0:27 behind late in the first half, the outsider turned the American football duel with the Chargers on Saturday evening (local time) and won in the end by a narrow 31:30.

The wildcard game for the Jaguars, who were in the playoffs for the first time since 2017, started like a nightmare: Quarterback Trevor Lawrence made three interceptions in the first 15 minutes of the first playoff game of his career.

Shortly before the end of the first half there were even five turnovers for the Chargers at a score of 0:27.

Such a situation has occurred 26 times in the play-offs so far – and 26 times the team left the field as losers after five turnovers.

Touchdown just before halftime brings the turnaround

Just before halftime, Lawrence found his tight end Evan Engram with a nine-yard pass in the end zone.

The touchdown, which initially only seemed like a small ray of hope, became the turning point of the game.

In the second half, Lawrence's first two drives each ended with a touchdown: first he served wide receiver Marvin Jones for six yards, then he found his colleague Zay Jones for 39 yards in the end zone.

Little was left of the Chargers.

Only kicker Cameron Dicker has meanwhile followed up with a field goal from 50 yards.

The last quarter started at 20:30 - and the Chargers gave up the victory they believed to be secure.

First, Cameron Dicker missed a field goal from 53 yards, then Lawrence threw another touchdown pass.

Quarterback Lawrence: "Just kept believing in each other"

“You couldn't write a crazier screenplay.

We said in the dressing room, that's kind of how our season goes, we're never quite out of the fight," Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence told NBC.

"I had bad passes in the first half, we didn't look good offensively, but we just kept believing in each other."

The Jaguars had such a poor record in each of the two previous seasons, with just four wins in total, that they had the first pick in the draft, which should go to the weakest team of the previous season.

In 2021, the Jaguars brought quarterback Lawrence to Florida.

“I didn't have much of a choice.

If you want to get out of this hole, you have to score a lot of points," Lawrence said of his four bad passes.

"I didn't want to be the reason these guys lose today."

Third-greatest comeback of the NFL playoffs

According to U.S. media, there have only been two games in NFL playoff history with a larger gap: the Buffalo Bills beat the Houston Oilers by 32 points in 1992 and the Indianapolis Colts beat Kansas City in 2013 Chiefs after being 28 points behind in a wild card game.

Who the Jaguars meet in the second playoff round will be decided in the further duels of the wild card round.
