Niklas Süle is only 6th in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund before the start of the year. Nevertheless, the ex-Bayern speaks confidently of the championship.

Munich – has the championship already been decided?

Many experts cannot imagine any other title holders than FC Bayern, also this year.

The Munich team leads the tableau in the Bundesliga and is already nine points ahead of their strongest opponent, Borussia Dortmund.

But not everyone has written off the title in Dortmund.

An example: Ex-Bayer Niklas Süle.

Süle wants the championship title: "Nothing is lost yet"

In an interview with

Welt

, the national player said briskly: "The table situation is only preliminary.

I can still remember well that BVB was nine points ahead of Bayern and in the end Bayern became champions.” Süle, who moved from Munich to the Ruhr area in the summer, has only played 15 games.

He teased Bayern: "After the first five games they were cheered, then they also had a small phase of weakness." It annoys him the most "that we couldn't use this phase."

Süle explains the difference in points with special circumstances from BVB's point of view: "Illnesses, injuries, we are also in the middle of a change.

There were a number of new players, a new coaching staff, new staff members, and there was a change in the position of sports director.

It was clear that it would take time to find everything.” Nevertheless, there were many games “that we shouldn't have lost, through our own fault.

Everyone here is already aware of that.”

Süle continues: “Nothing is lost yet.

If we were to win the two remaining games in the first half of the season, we'd be right up there again.

It's only three points to second place.

We have to question ourselves and try to do better than before.

We are far from giving up on our goals yet.

We're in the round of 16 in the Champions League and we're through in the DFB Cup.

And we want to climb up the Bundesliga table.”

Game against Bayern as a symbol of the season: "Our best game ever"

As an example of the great potential of his club, Süle cites a few special games in the first half of the season:

"I think we played some very good games.

Our two games against Manchester City or the first half against Bayern Munich – some of those were outstanding performances.” The game against Bayern in particular was “symbolic”: “We played our best game ever, but we were still 1-0 down at the break.

You think: We're in good shape, we can pack them.

But then we lose concentration, get 0: 2 and were lucky that we didn't get 0: 3."

Although the game ended 2-2, according to Süle, “it was still annoying that we simply let up in the meantime.

It has something to do with how I take on challenges.

Do I stick to our plan - or do I get nervous?

Unfortunately, there were too many games in which we didn't succeed in following our plan." Süle explains that Dortmund "cost a lot of points that we only performed for 50 or 70 minutes, but not 90 minutes plus stoppage time to have."

He "decided to join BVB with the utmost conviction" and "is incredibly excited about the future here." Youssoufa Moukoko is currently part of this team - but maybe not for long.
