After Chelsea signed the Ukrainian talent from Shakhtar Donetsk in a deal estimated at around 100 million euros, it was learned that substantial money will be transferred to the struggle that will mark a year next month

Chelsea announced last weekend that they signed the Ukrainian talent Mykhailo Modric for around 100 million euros from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Blues under the ownership of Todd Buhly spent about half a billion euros in the last six months on purchase players, which currently does not really help them to integrate into the top of the Premier League.

Today it became known that about 25 million dollars of the amount paid to Shakhtar will be transferred from the Ukrainian luxury club to the local army and fighters fighting with Russia in the east of the country.

"I am transferring 25 million today to help our soldiers, the people who protect us and their families," said Shakhtar owner Rinat Akhmatov, "the money I am transferring will be used for various things - medicine, medical aid and other things that our military personnel need."

Akhmatov also said: "To ensure complete transparency, this project will be managed independently by people who were in continuous contact with the soldiers, civilians, medical teams and volunteers."

The Russia-Ukraine war did break out on February 24, 2022, but Shakhtar has actually been exiled outside of Donetsk since 2014, when pro-Russian separatists took over territories in the Donbas region.

Beyond the long-standing ambition to return to Donetsk, Shakhtar really want to hold a friendly match against Chelsea in their home stadium.

Which, of course, is not at all possible at the moment."

On the reason he agreed to sell Modric even though he previously stated that he would stay at least one more season in Ukraine: "Unfortunately, it is not possible at the moment because Ukraine was attacked in a cruel and unjustified war by Russia. But I am sure that we will win and in the future we will have a friendly match against Chelsea at the Donbass Arena. In the Ukrainian Donetsk".
