James joined Kareem's club just before becoming the all-time scoring king, and got another stamp on the "greatest career in history." One decision turned the festival into a scandal

It was supposed to be LeBron James' gala night.

Already during the first quarter against Philadelphia, King James scored the long-awaited basket that put him in the exclusive club of players who have scored 38 thousand points in their career in the NBA - a club of which only he and Kareem Abdul Jabbar are now members.

LeBron is on the safe way to overtake Kareem and soon become the league's all-time scoring king: he is only 364 points away from the record, and if he maintains his normal pace of scoring, the record is expected to be broken in the middle of next month.

Tonight, as mentioned, LeBron was at his peak.

He scored 35 points, handed out 10 assists and pulled down 8 rebounds, leading the Lakers to a lead over a strong opponent like the Sixers for many minutes.

But then came the last move of the game, with the Lakers trailing by a point, and Russell Westbrook tried to steal the show.

The Lakers had two timeouts left, but that didn't stop Westbrook from going with his head against the wall and not doing the required action and handing the last ball to LeBron.

It ended with a layup decision against the outstretched hands of Joel Embiid, and a 112:113 victory for Philadelphia.

In the United States, Westbrook's last possession was already defined as "the dumbest move of the season", considering that LeBron did not touch the ball in the attack in question, and that the Lakers had timeouts that could have been used to draw up a drill that would arrange a much more comfortable and effective shot than the one Westbrook took.

"Russ ignored the second greatest player ever, on a night of 35, 8 and 10. There are no words to describe it"

"Every time it seems that Westbrook is overly hated, a move comes along that reminds us why"

And so LeBron's special evening turned from a festival to a scandal.

At the interview station, James seemed short-tempered and frustrated, and answered each question with short answers.

"We made a stop, we gave ourselves a chance to win, but we didn't take advantage of it," Balkonie repeated repeatedly when asked what he thought of Westbrook's latest move.

James is frustrated that "we play good basketball, but we just don't win games. We are better than at the beginning of the season, that's for sure. But we have to start winning."

Westbrook, for his part, claimed that a foul was committed on him, and it is not clear to him why it was not whistled.

He doesn't really regret the decision to take the last ball.

"I tried to attack the ring, but Embiid caught me by the hand and I couldn't go up for a shot. It's disappointing that they didn't whistle a foul in my favor."

According to Westbrook, "This game was decided on the last shot, but I've been in this league long enough to know that every game consists of so many possessions, and each one of them can change the final result, so my head is already thinking about the next game, and I'm not messing around That's too much."

Surprisingly, the coach backs him up.

It should have ended differently.

Westbrook is convinced he made the right decision.

"Since I joined the Lakers, my job is first of all to make life easier for LeBron and AD. I know my abilities, I know I'm able to initiate moves. In the last move I couldn't throw because his hand was grabbed tightly, but that's okay, it can happen," he says.

Surprisingly, Lakers coach Darwin Hamm backed Westbrook.

"We were behind by a point, and one of our best playmakers was with the ball. Russ is one of the best one-on-one players out there, and he's great at finishing moves close to the basket. I have no problem with him taking that shot. For me, he'll take that shot in the next game as well , and in the game after that. I just hope that next time he scores it," he explained.

Either way, LeBron will remain after this evening with the compliments, and with the warm words he received from Philadelphia coach Doc Rivers: "When he retires, he will realize that it was the greatest career of all time. In my opinion, he is already there. Even if Jordan is the greatest player of all time , LeBron had the greatest career of all time, more than Michael. That's not taking anything away from either of them."
