The Paris public prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the former president of the French football association, Noël Le Graët.
As the prosecutor announced on Tuesday at the request of the AFP news agency, the 81-year-old was being investigated for allegations of bullying and sexual assault.
The allegations had previously been the subject of an investigation initiated by Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra.
As the daily newspaper "Le Monde" reports, the investigations of the public prosecutor's office were opened on Monday as a result of the questioning of sports agent Sonia Souid by the General Inspectorate for Education, Sport and Research (IGESR).
Souid had previously publicly accused Le Graët of sexual harassment.
Noël Le Graët resigned as association president almost a week ago as a result of several scandals.
Among other things, he had spoken disparagingly about the French football legend Zinédine Zidane and his possible future as national coach of the vice world champion.
Former Uefa boss Michel Platini is also under discussion as a possible successor.
Platini was banned for corruption in the course of the investigation against Fifa and later convicted.
