At the end of yesterday's game against Beitar Jerusalem, Maccabi Tel Aviv fans, who were escorted out by the police from one exit - which led to a huge crowd - claimed that some of them were beaten by police officers for no reason, while the police announced that objects were thrown at them.

Maccabi's management issued a statement on the matter and said: "The photos and testimonies flowing to us from the many fans who left Teddy Stadium are very serious. A large crowd of Maccabi Tel Aviv came to the game and it is impossible for him to leave when he suffers such violence from the police when the reason does not seem justified."

The yellow team also stated: "This is not the first time that fans have encountered such behavior on the part of policemen in Teddy and in the end fans will not want to go there. We will continue to study the facts and act accordingly."

The spokesperson of the police (Jerusalem) said yesterday: "During the evening and up to this time, many police forces worked with the help of bouncers and security guards to maintain public order and prevent violent incidents before, during and after the football match held at the "Teddy" stadium in Jerusalem.

Before the game, a number of fans who came armed with stones and assault tools (wooden and iron poles) were located and these suspects were arrested by the police forces.

Later, during the game, objects were thrown between the stands of the fans from both teams.

At the end of the game, a handful of fans began to violate the order by throwing objects.

As a result, the police acted to arrest those involved, while several fans tried to thwart the actions of the police and shouted insults at them.

Contrary to the claims published in some of the media, at the end of the game several exit gates were opened for the team's fans in order to allow a safe exit from the stadium.

During the evening, 10 suspects were transferred to the police for questioning - 1 following the lighting of a detonator detected by the stadium cameras and with the help of observation, a force was directed to arrest the suspect, 1 who was caught in possession of pepper spray, 6 for disorderly conduct and 2 for attacking police officers.

The Israel Police will act resolutely against violence on the fields and against those who come to the sports fields with the aim of degenerating into a battle arena, disrupting order and thereby harming the sports experiences of the fans."
