Because they bet on games in their own league, the suspicion of match fixing against 25 professionals from the top two leagues is currently being examined in the Netherlands.

The Dutch football association KNVB has confirmed corresponding reports from the news channel NOS.

However, there are still no concrete indications as to whether it is actually betting fraud.

Names have not been leaked either.

It is said to be six professionals from the Eredivisie and 19 players from the second division, the Keuken Kampioen Divisie.

So far, it is said, there is still no evidence that it really involves criminal acts and that games have been manipulated accordingly.

The police are now involved and are investigating investigations.

One thing is clear: bets on games in your own league violate the provisions of the KNVB.

The association has emphasized this again.

Betting ban in the future in the contracts?

The reporting office of the supervisory authority for gambling, the Sports Betting Intelligence Unit, had sounded the alarm accordingly.

The conspicuous bets are said to have been registered between October 2021 and December 2022.

A corresponding document from the authority is available to NOS.

"We will point out even more clearly in the future that this is not permitted," said Jan de Jong, director of the league.

For example, betting bans are to be included in the players' contracts in the future: The players "will then put their signatures under contracts that stipulate that they should no longer bet on football games at all".

Then, according to de Jong, no one could talk their way out of ignorance.

Allegations of this kind are not new to Dutch football.

As part of their investigation into betting fraud in football, the Bochum public prosecutor's office found that several Eredivisie games in 2009 had been manipulated.
