The new Formula 1 season starts in March – without RTL. The private broadcaster and long-time companion of the racing series will completely dispense with live reporting in the future. Most recently, the TV ratings had fallen again.

RTL does not want to sign a new contract with Sky and will not broadcast any Formula 1 races from the coming season.

The broadcaster confirmed a corresponding report by »Bild«.

Pay-TV broadcaster Sky has acquired the TV rights to the most important motorsport series for the German market.

In the past two years, Sky had sold sub-licenses for four grand prizes to the Cologne-based free TV broadcaster.

According to Sky, there is not yet a new partner for the season beginning in March.

RTL was the leading Formula 1 broadcaster in Germany for many years and was most recently allowed to show all races on free-to-air television in 2020.

Since then, only Sky has been able to broadcast all the Grand Prix.

With the four races acquired, RTL 2022 once again recorded falling ratings compared to the previous year.

Just 2.66 million people on average watched the last Formula 1 race on Cologne's private broadcaster in mid-November.
