After years of a demanding career in terms of nutritional habits and maintaining fitness, many former athletes allow themselves to enjoy themselves a little more in the days after retirement, gain weight and look a little different than we remembered them on the field.
However, there are few players who make such a radical change that fans find it hard to recognize them.
Such a case occurred in Manchester, when United fans were amazed by the picture of the club legend Brian McCleer.
The player who wore the Red Devils uniform between 1987 and 1998 did not drastically gain weight, but he underwent a massive change in appearance in terms of hair.
This week a photo of a fan taking a photo with McClair in a pub in Manchester was posted on social media, with the 58-year-old Scot sporting a long white beard that left fans stunned.
United fans, recognize him?
"Is it really him?", wondered a number of fans of the Red Devils, when one of them said that in the current appearance McClair looks like a homeless person.
Another fan joked and claimed that McClair today "looks like a rock star ten years after the breakup of his band, what a legend."
In over a decade under Sir Alex Ferguson, McIlair made over 450 appearances, won four FA Cups and two FA Cups, but he missed out on winning a treble that included the Champions League in 1999 by a year.
In addition, McClair played for Celtic and Motherwell from his country and even made 35 appearances for the national team.
After retirement, MacClaire served a short period as an assistant coach at Blackburn and then returned to United in several positions in the youth department.
