After national goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was out of the season due to injury, FC Bayern found a replacement with a Bundesliga competitor: Yann Sommer is coming from Borussia Mönchengladbach during the winter break.
This was announced by the German record champions on Thursday.
"Yann Sommer is a valuable reinforcement for us because he has a lot of international experience and has also known the Bundesliga for many years.
He has everything he needs to contribute to our success right away.
We are sure that we can achieve our goals with Yann Sommer," said Oliver Kahn, CEO of FC Bayern.
Sommer will therefore receive a contract until June 30, 2025. The fee for the Swiss, whose contract in Gladbach would have expired at the end of the season, should be eight million euros plus a bonus of 1.5 million.
»I am proud to be part of FC Bayern now.
It's a big club with power - I know about the enormous quality and charisma of this club.
We have big tasks ahead of us,” said Sommer.
Sommer switched from FC Basel to the Bundesliga in 2014.
He played 335 competitive games for Borussia Mönchengladbach.
In 2012 he made his debut in the Swiss national team, for which he has now become the record national goalkeeper with 80 appearances.
So far, Sommer has taken part in three world championships and two European championships.
