Football: Anton Walkes, Charlotte player in the United States, dies in a boat accident

He was revived by Miami firefighters before being taken to hospital, but later died.

He was a wonderful son, father, partner and teammate whose cheerful approach to life touched everyone he met, said club owner David Tepper.

Anton made those around him better people in every way and represented Charlotte FC at the highest level, on and off the pitch.

He will be sadly missed by many and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this heartbreaking time.”

Originally from the suburbs of London, Walkes came from the Tottenham training center where he started in 2013. He joined Portsmouth (League One, 3rd English division) in 2018, after a first spell in MLS, in Atlanta, in the form loan.

He returned to the Georgia State club in 2020 where he played one season, before being transferred last season to Charlotte.
