Freisinger Lucy Klein triumphed with the German U18 at the B World Championships in Italy.
She was also named player of the game in one game.
Freising – Freising ice hockey talent Lucy Klein won the B World Championships in Italy last weekend with the U18 women's national team.
The 17-year-old student added another milestone to her career and helped the German team to climb back up to the top division.
German U18 wins four out of five games
The striker of the women's Bundesliga team ERC Ingolstadt played all five games of the tournament in the Ritten Arena (Bolzano), scored one goal herself and set up another one.
In the 3-1 win against the Hungarians, she was recognized as the best player in her team.
"I'm quite happy with my tournament, I was allowed to play over and under, was sent into overtime and got a lot of ice time," said Klein after her return.
The German U18s clearly won their first three games against Norway (3:1), Hungary (3:1) and Austria (2:0).
In the decisive duel against hosts Italy, no goals were scored in regular time or overtime.
Felina Klare and Emmi-Lee Hanack made it 1-0 after a penalty shootout with their two goals in the shootout.
The Germans were already certain as climbers.
Nevertheless, the girls gave their all in the last game, but lost 2-1 to the French after a penalty shoot-out.
(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)
For Klein, the final four in the DEB Cup is already on the agenda for the weekend
But that didn't detract from the joy.
National coach Franziska Busch praised the team effort throughout the tournament and thanked all the players.
DEB sports director Christian Künast was also very satisfied with the U18 women: "We are very happy about the promotion to the top division - well deserved after the performances shown.
The whole team was completely convincing and always appeared as a cohesive unit.
This was our great strength in this tournament.
Congratulations to the team and especially to Franziska Busch, who managed to form a tight-knit group.
We look forward to the challenge of playing against the best teams in the world next year.”
However, Lucy Klein is no longer eligible to play when she is over 18 years old.
There is no rest for the striker after her return from Italy.
On Saturday, the final four tournament in the DEB Cup in Füssen is on the agenda, where the ERC women will compete against Mannheim, Berlin and Memmingen.
