FC Bayern has now officially announced the commitment of its new keeper.
Yann Sommer drove up to Säbener Straße this morning together with the integration officer Johannes Mösmang, a few hours later the record champions announced the deal on their website and on all social media channels.
Both sides were delighted with the transfer, as could be seen from Hasan Salihamidzic's smile.
"After Manuel's failure we had to react.
We have big goals for this season that we want to achieve and that's why we hired Yann Sommer, who we think is one of the best goalkeepers in Europe," said sports director Salihamidzic in the club's statement.
He also thanked for "constructive negotiations".
"I'm really looking forward to my new role at FC Bayern.
It's a big club with power, we've often played against each other - I know about the enormous quality and appeal of this club.
I'm proud to be a part of FC Bayern now," Sommer told club media.
"We have big tasks ahead of us," knows the Swiss, who has a contract until the summer of 2025 - this means that the Swiss national keeper has been under contract longer than Manuel Neuer, who is currently recovering from a serious fracture of the lower leg.
