The Hapoel Kfar Saba Volleyball Club awarded scholarships yesterday (Wednesday) to four outstanding players of the club who play in the girls' team up to the age of 17, who represented Israel in the European Championship qualifiers, and to the player of the boys' team up to the age of 17 who also traveled with the boys' team to the European Championship qualifiers.
The chairman of the club, Gerry Abramowitz, awarded the scholarships in a special ceremony attended by family members to four of the club's young players: Maya Shmuel, Maayan Karni, Shahar Segal, and Maya Donto, as well as to Yoav Gerdi. Maayan Karni, 15 and a half years old, belongs to the club's senior team.
The reason for this unusual step was due to the fact that the players were asked to pay the travel expenses out of their own pockets, instead of the union doing it, since the players represent the country in official games.
It is about a trip to Slovakia of the Israeli national team for girls up to the age of 17 in the qualifiers for the European Championship.
"It is time to return the budgets that were cut to the volleyball industry, to the associations and the union," said Hapoel Kfar Saba, who, like the other volleyball clubs, are feeling the cuts due to the reduction of budgets from the state authorities.
Hapoel KPS decided not to reduce professional activity despite the cuts - and are even expanding activities such as the elementary league that they established on their own initiative and will be held for the second season - and are doing everything so that the players in the junior division enjoy the best conditions.
