Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) has rejected criticism from the German Football Association of her one-love performance at the World Cup in Qatar.
"Of course" she received the armband she wore in the stands during the preliminary round match against Japan "from the DFB," said Faeser on the sidelines of the New Year's reception of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) on Saturday in Frankfurt: "From who else? «
President Bernd Neuendorf had previously criticized the SPD politician when introducing Rudi Völler as DFB sports director.
“The Home Secretary made a decision, that was her decision.
That was in no way agreed with us,” said Neuendorf.
Völler agreed: “Even the Minister of the Interior should not have done one or the other.”
»Important to show attitude«
"I don't think that Mr. Völler should do the work for Fifa," said Faeser: "Wearing the bandage was an action primarily in protest against Fifa - not against Qatar, but against Fifa, which the associations , who wanted to wear what the DFB was underneath, which banned it shortly before the start of the games." It was "personally important" to "show your attitude there".
On Friday, Völler also questioned the role of the DFB in the debate about the One Love armband during the World Cup.
'The whole fuss in Qatar about the bandage.
We didn't play a good part there,' he said.
Nevertheless, Faeser welcomed the DFB decision to involve the former national player and team boss.
She is pleased that Völler »has taken on this task.
I believe that he will help ensure that there will be a good restart at the DFB."
