Dortmund cheers against Augsburg

Chain of errors in the game:
Borussia Dortmund has big goals for the first half of 2023. Go far in the Champions League, in the DFB Cup anyway and move up from sixth place in the Bundesliga.
But this defensive behavior won't work.
The 1-1 equalizer is exemplary: goalkeeper Kobel played the ball to Nico Schlotterbeck, who frittered the ball away on the outside line, Jude Bellingham let himself be tunnelled, Salih Özcan intervened too hesitantly and the ball was already in the goal.
"In 100 out of 100 cases, there shouldn't be a goal against," criticized representative Dazn expert Jonas Hummels.
Result:
Borussia Dortmund won 4:3 (2:2) against FC Augsburg on match day 16 of the Bundesliga.

New in the team:
While ex-Unioner Julian Ryerson made his debut in the first eleven at BVB just a few days after his commitment, two of the five newcomers in the starting eleven moved into the Augsburg team: Dion Beljo, 1.95 meters tall attacking edge Croatia, and the only 19-year-old Belgian Arne Engels in central midfield.
First half:
Mats Hummels opened the game with a hard foul on Ruben Vargas but avoided an early yellow card in his 450th game for BVB while the Augsburger had to leave the field injured.
The lead for the hosts, who played in 4-1-4-1, was achieved by Bellingham (30th minute) after a nice wobble and a brilliant finish.
The minutes from Schlotterbeck followed: First, by losing the ball, he initiated Arne Maier's equalizer (40'), before he headed in on the other side (42').

Moukoko with a future:
After a lot of public back and forth and an ultimatum from BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl, attacking talent Moukoko has extended his contract in Dortmund until 2026, including a salary increase and earnest money.
Although the 18-year-old is the club's top scorer so far this season, if Sébastien Haller returns, he'll be on the bench again.
The new contract is a bet on the future, Moukoko has to redeem it now.
Against FCA he had no effect in 60 minutes of the game.
Dortmund options:
The signing of Ryerson and the return of Haller have expanded the options for BVB coach Edin Terzic.
National player Niklas Süle slipped onto the bench, where Mahmoud Dahoud and Reyna, among others, were waiting to be used.
A different picture than in the first half of the season, when the Dortmunder Bank was partly a gathering place for the nameless.
Maassen's return:
Enrico Maassen coached Borussia Dortmund's second team from 2020 to 2022, and now he has returned to his old place of work as head coach of FC Augsburg.
There was friendly applause, but no turnaround: Augsburg have been without a win for nine competitive games.
Augsburg cleaning up:
On the desired path towards the top half of the table, FCA has once again turned the big wheel in terms of personnel this season.
A dozen players have come and gone in summer and winter.
And manager Stefan Reuter still has a few days to add a few fresh names to this impressive balance sheet.
San Jose is said to be interested in Carlos Gruezo.
Haller's emotional return:
In the 62nd minute, the 81,000 spectators cheered: Haller is finally here.
The attacker came to Dortmund from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer before a shock diagnosis put him out of action: testicular cancer.
Surgery and chemotherapy followed and now at the start of the year the debut in the black and yellow dress.
Tatort table:
BVB remains sixth, but moves up to two points to second place due to the success.
What is worrying: Dortmund have conceded just one goal less than the penultimate Hertha BSC.
FC Augsburg can't buy anything for their committed performance and is only ahead of the relegation rank because of the more goals scored.
