Ski racer Linus Straßer missed a place on the podium at the World Cup slalom in Kitzbühel with the narrowest of all deficits.
In the second race, the 30-year-old from Munich dropped from third to fourth place on the extremely icy Ganslernhang – he was only a hundredth of a second off his third podium result this winter.
"Fourth place has never hurt me so much," said Straßer on ZDF.
The victory in front of 25,000 spectators went to the Swiss Daniel Yule.
Second was last year's winner Dave Ryding from Great Britain (+0.40), third was Lucas Braathen from Norway (+0.41).
Austria's Manuel Feller was still in the lead after the first round.
With victory in sight, he missed a goal in the second round and was eliminated - to the horror of the many fans at the finish with "Terminator" Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead.
The action hero covered his face in horror as Feller failed.
As the only German starter next to Straßer (+0.42), Sebastian Holzmann had made it into the final.
He finished a respectable 18th place.
