Maximilian Rath (13) won gold over 800 meters at the southern Bavarian championship.

He caused a similar bang in the M14 as his sister did in 2018.

Munich – What his sister Julia did five years ago with the M14 girls, Maximilian Rath has now done with the M14 boys: setting a Bavarian indoor record over 800 meters.

At the southern Bavarian championships for U20 and U16, the 13-year-old from Penzberger won with a time of 2:11.38 minutes – that corresponds to an average speed of 21.9 km/h.

The fact that he also improved the Bavarian M14 record in his first indoor competition was "completely unexpected", according to a statement.

The previous record, set by Robin Adelwarth (TV Erkheim) in 2012, was beaten by Maximilian Rath by 2.32 seconds.

Right from the start, the man from Penzberg, who has been competing for LG Stadtwerke München this year, was at the front of the field and set the pace.

He ran the first 200 meters in 32.25 seconds, and Rath passed the 400 meter mark in 1:04.99 minutes.

After 600 meters the clock read 1:38.71 minutes for Rath.

Only his club colleague Simon Nüß - second in the end with 2:17.91 minutes - was able to keep up a little on the first two laps, the other six participants in this time trial were significantly slower.

On the last two laps, Rath was completely alone at the front.

With his time, the Penzberger took the lead in the current DLV leaderboard.

The second fastest indoor time in the M14 in Germany this season was Taro Rösler (2:13.5) from SC Potsdam.

Rath improved his personal 800-meter best time – set on June 16, 2022 outdoors in Ingolstadt – by almost six seconds.

Marius Walchshöfer from TSV Weilheim was also at the start over the 800 meters of the M14 boys.

He won the second time trial in 2:43.85 minutes, beating six competitors.

Ben Geisser (2:44.13) from TSV Untermaiselstain came closest to him.

In the overall standings, Walchshöfer took ninth place.

The TSV athlete ran the first 200 meters in 39.75 seconds, he completed the first 400 meters in 1:24.66 minutes.
