Warsaw - SANA

Polish media reported today that the Polish Football Association will contract former Portugal coach Fernando Santos to coach the national team.

The 68-year-old Santos, who was separated from the Portugal national team in December after the 2022 World Cup quarter-final exit against Morocco, was seen at Warsaw airport today.

Cesare Kolesha, president of the Polish Football Association, said yesterday: The association will present the new coach to the media and the fans tomorrow.

Santos led Portugal to win the 2016 European Championship and the Nations League for the 2018-2019 season, with Cristiano Ronaldo as captain.

At the club level, he trained Porto, AEK Athens, Panathinaikos, Sporting, Benfica and PAOK, and spent four years coaching Greece.

Former Poland coach Czesaw Mikhniewicz left his post after the Football Association there decided not to renew his contract, as he led the team to reach the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time in 36 years at the finals held in Qatar 2022.
