For runners-up Borussia Dortmund, the first half of the Bundesliga season at Mainz 05 ended with a last-minute win.

After early goals from Mainz's Lee Jae-sung (2nd minute) and BVB signing Julian Ryerson (4th), it took until injury time for Giovanni Reyna to make it 2-1 (1-1) (90' + 3'). ).

Dortmund is five points behind leaders Bayern Munich after 17 games, while Mainz finishes the first series in twelfth place with 20 points.

The game got off to a spectacular start: Lee heads in from an early Mainz corner to take the lead after beating Ryerson (2').

The Norwegian, who joined the BVB squad from Union Berlin at the beginning of the winter break, reappeared just two minutes later - this time on the other side: Edimilson Fernandes falsified a shot by Ryerson into his own goal, and an embarrassing action became the fast one Compensation (4th).

As a result, the pace slowed noticeably.

Mainz retreated far and lurked for ball wins, Dortmund tried to send wingers Donyell Malen and Karim Adeyemi in one-on-one duels.

But there was rarely enough space for this, the BVB strikers kept orienting themselves too early in the middle of the field and found themselves outnumbered against the Mainz defense.

A shot by Youssoufa Moukoko to the side netting (8'), a chance for Adeyemi, who put the ball over the goal from the crowd (14') - BVB couldn't think of much more before the break.

Even new attackers remain pale

Even after the change of sides, it remained offensive on both sides with piecework.

Adeyemi remained harmless in several attempts, Marcus Ingvartsen headed just over the goal for Mainz (60th).

Then BVB coach Edin Terzić reacted in three ways: Emre Can left the field, as did the hapless Malen and Moukoko, and they were replaced by three new attacking players: Sébastien Haller, who has recovered from testicular cancer, Giovanni Reyna and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.

The game became more open, Bynoe-Gittens slid from the penalty area into Finn Dahmen's arms (68'), Angelo Fulgini tested Gregor Kobel on the other side (74').

After coach Bo Svensson helped striker Ludovic Ajorque, who had been signed from Strasbourg, to make his Bundesliga debut for Mainz 05, things got tricky again for BVB in the closing stages with high balls – Anton Stach had the best chance just wide of the far post (87th minute). ), before Reyna pushed a corner extended by Haller over the line from a short distance.
