Ski boots probably saved Manuel Neuer from worse
In fact, Neuer suffered an open tibia and fibula fracture.
Getting medical care for his leg was a race against time.
The ski boot seems to have rendered Neuer an important service: it is said to have held the gaping wound together to some extent.
Because of the heavy bleeding, rapid medical treatment was extremely important - fortunately, the rescue helicopter arrived quickly.
Neuer then went to the Murnau accident clinic, where the leg underwent emergency surgery.
