Former German biathlete Franziska Hildebrand, who only announced her retirement last year due to pregnancy, gave birth last Wednesday.

The two-time world champion made her family planning public in September and announced that she would withdraw from competitive sports.

"I had a dream, I had a goal and I had a plan on the way to Oberhof

... and then life got in the way," wrote the 35-year-old at the time the social media.

"Now I'm looking forward to the new adventures that await me as a mother next year," she added.

Now the adventure can begin.

On Wednesday, Hildebrand shared a telling photo on social media showing her baby's hand grasping her finger.

"We are so happy that you are here, little woman," wrote Halle about her emotional contribution.

Franziska Hildebrand: Prominent congratulations for the former biathlete

Below the picture, Hildebrand congratulated some sports personalities on the offspring.

The South Tyrolean biathlete Dorothea Wierer wrote "Congratulations, Franzi", and her former teammate Franziska Preuß, who recently announced her early end of the season, also sent three heart emojis.

Track and field athlete Pamela Dutkiewicz-Emmerich wished mother and daughter "a great get-to-know-you".

Former Olympic biathlon champion Anaïs Bescond, Swiss biathlete Selina Gasparin and former Finnish biathlon star Kaisa Mäkäräinen also joined the well-wishers.

Franziska Hildebrand can look back on two World Championship titles, one European Championship victory and participation in the Olympics

Hildebrand, who has only been in biathlon retirement for a few months, can look back on a thoroughly successful career.

She was a member of the DSV squad for over 15 years and won two individual World Cups as well as 13 World Cup victories with the relay.

She made the big leap in Kontiolahti in 2015 and in Hochfilzen in 2017 when she won gold at the World Championships in the relay.

She also won gold in the relay at the 2010 European Championships.

There were also two Olympic participations, in Sochi and in Pyeongchang Hildebrand took part in a total of seven competitions.
