The women's final of the Australian Open in Melbourne will oppose Kazakh Elena Rybakina and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka. An unprecedented final

The first round of the 2023 Grand Slam will be played on Saturday between Kazakh Elena Rybakina, 25th in the world, and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka (5th).

Victorious over the Polish Madga Linette (45th in the world), Sabalenka (5th in the world), avenged Caroline Garcia, who had been beaten by the Pole in the round of 16.

In two straight sets 7-6 (7/1), 6-2 in 1h31′, the 24-year-old player was sure of her game by not conceding any set since the start of the tournament.

For Sabalenka, the fourth semi-final of a Grand Slam was therefore the right one.

After failing twice at the US Open and once at Wimbledon, she will play the first final of a Major tournament in two days.

She will find the Kazakh Elena Rybakina, who dismissed a little earlier another Belarusian Victoria Azarenka (24th in the world), former winner here in 2012 and 2013. The Kazakh won 7-6 (7/4), 6- 3 in 1h41′.

Fallen world number 1, the Polish Iga Swiatek in the round of 16.

At 23, Rybakina will play in her second Grand Slam final after her victory at Wimbledon last year.

"I'm very happy and proud to be in the final here for the first time," commented Rybakina, who had never made it past the third round in three Australian Major appearances so far.

Today was tough because the conditions meant that the balls weren't very fast.

I have more experience now.

I just want to come on the court and enjoy it.

We will see how it goes: I will fight, I will do my best and I hope to win, ”she said.
