After quite a few top-ranked women returned home in the early stages, the semi-final stage of the Australian Championship was held today (Thursday), and at the end it was determined that Jelena Rivakina and Aryna Savalanka qualified for the final of one of the most unexpected Grand Slams seen in the women's circuit in recent years.

Yelena Rybakina (22, Kazakhstan) - Victoria Azarenka (24, Belarus) 6:7 (4), 3:6
Victoria Azarenka dreamed of repeating the wins from Australia in 2012 and 2013, but the Belarusian's journey stopped in the semifinals against one of the breakthroughs of women's tennis in the last year.
Kazakhstan's Yelena Rybakina, who stunned everyone on her way to winning Wimbledon, secured participation in the second Grand Slam final of her career with a convincing 6:7 (4), 3:6 in one hour and 43 minutes.
The first set was quite volatile, with each player breaking her opponent's serve twice.
Rivakina broke Azarenka's serve twice in the tie breaker on the way to a 2:5 advantage, and although she saw the veteran tennis player break her serve twice and shrink to 5:4, she recovered on the way to 4:7.
In the second set, Rivakina broke twice on the way to a promising 2:5, after which Azarenka provided her own break and reduced it to 3:5, but was broken once more and Rivakina celebrated in front of the audience in Melbourne her record achievement in the Grand Slam in Australia.

Aryna Savalanka (5, Belarus) - Magda Lint (Poland) 6:7 (1), 2:6
Although Azarenka did not qualify for the final, Belarus will still have a representative in the form of Savalanka - who secured her place in the first Grand Slam final of her career after defeating the surprise of the tournament Magda Lint.

This time too, the Pole made it difficult for a top seed and dragged the Belarusian to a tiebreaker in the first set, but there she was defeated 7:1 and fell behind which complicated her for the rest.
In the second set, Savalanka broke her opponent twice in a row and closed the story with 3:6.
