Eyal Berkovich, the former soccer player and current TV presenter, addressed the issue of the Public Broadcasting Corporation this evening (Friday) on the "Ofira and Barko" program on Channel 12.
Berkovic and Essig hosted the actors Sashon Gabai and Dana Moden on their show, and discussed with them the option of closing Channel 11 here.
Berkovic said: "There are people who don't have converter boxes at home and they only watch here 11. If Karai came and said there is no budget, I would understand, but he is lying. He doesn't like the channel because it is against the right, his considerations are political."
He continued: "If they were a little more right-wing, and spoke in favor of Bibi and Krei, they wouldn't have shut them down. In recent years, there has been a crazy improvement in content, it's a legitimate channel that's fun to watch. They did the World Cup in an amazing way. Even if they close here - there are people who are addicted to this channel".
As I recall, Communications Minister Shlomo Karai was a guest at a digital journalism conference at Reichman University, and addressed for the first time since taking office the possibility of the public broadcasting corporation closing down.
The same Karai, later called Berkovic and Essig's plan "an intellectual disgrace."
