On his Facebook account, the former Secretary of State in charge of Sports under Nicolas Sarkozy expressed himself: “

Dear friends, I warmly thank all the clubs for having expressed themselves massively during this referendum.

Even if the result is not what I expected, it is an immense satisfaction to see democracy at work at the heart of our institution.

Concerning the course of the referendum and the adventures which could influence the ballot, I heard the questions and the indignation, but do not wish to feed any controversy.

I took note of the result and this morning announced my resignation to the Management Committee

”.

“It must then be the time of calm and serenity”

The former coach of the XV of France then spoke about his decision to leave the post of president of the FFR before thanking all the players in French rugby.

"

This decision is mine because I continue to believe that the French Rugby family needs unity and unity.

We must do everything to succeed in the next sporting events.

There is no higher priority for me.

The Management Committee elected by the clubs will lead this federation until the end of its mandate as provided for in our statutes.

The opposition, with restraint and without taste for populist formulas, howls at the “putsch”.

It will therefore be the first putsch in history carried out by elected officials already in charge, who only follow the statutes and regulations of their institution.

Our clubs, who vote and decide on our statutes, will also have to democratically elect a new President next June to complete this term.

It should then be the time of calm and serenity.

Then,

in 16 months, after a World Cup that we all hope will be grandiose, it will be time for projects and debates, so that democracy can express itself again.

I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart all the volunteers who do rugby on a daily basis, the players of our French teams and clubs in France, the employees of the FFR as well as all the rugby lovers I have could cross paths.

We will always share the same passion, so I hope to see you again soon on a field or in a clubhouse.
