The third game of the year without a win – the stuttering start is slowly becoming a problem for FC Bayern. A player from Frankfurt showed the Bayern defense the limits, Makoto Hasebe made Bundesliga history at Eintracht.

Excitement of the game:

In the middle of the first half, Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer tried to save from Randal Kolo Muani outside the penalty area with a daring tackle, but not only hit the ball but also the leg of the Frankfurt attacker.

After that, the new number one from Munich still played the ball lightly with his hand.

Referee Sven Jablonski showed Sommer yellow, foul and handball could have been red, although not necessarily.

Bayern were allowed to continue with eleven players with a score of 0-0, despite all the protests.

Result:

FC Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt drew 1-1 (1-0) in Saturday evening's match of matchday 18.

Here is the match report.

First half:

It was an intense, tactically demanding match right from the start, in which only one thing was missing: clear chances to score.

There was excitement in the 25th minute of the summer action, nine minutes later it was 1-0 for Bayern: Thomas Müller found Leroy Sané in the back, who scored the lead with a low shot (34th minute).

There was one more treat: National player Mario Götze was tunnelled by Joshua Kimmich and Sané within seconds.

That shouldn't have happened to him too often in 13 years as a professional.

Nagelsmann's changes:

During the week, Bayern played a lousy first half in a 1-1 draw against 1. FC Köln.

Three main protagonists of the poor 45 minutes slipped out of the starting XI against Frankfurt: Serge Gnabry, Benjamin Pavard (both on the bench) and Leon Goretzka (missing).

They were replaced by Kingsley Coman, Josip Stanišić and Müller, while Jamal Musiala moved back a position.

Second half:

It continued at the same high pace, which delighted the spectators even without big scenes in the sixteen.

There were many, many, many duels in midfield, where the Frankfurters wanted to create majority situations as usual.

Things got wild in the 60th minute when Götze raged at a missed free kick before several Bayern players failed at the other end due to the multi-legged defence.

The visitors equalized with their first shot at the hosts' goal: Kolo Muani outwitted Dayot Upamecano by simply putting the ball past him on the left and completing it with a left into the right corner (69').

Bayern were shocked and couldn't move any further.

So it stayed at the deserved 1:1.

Duel on the line:

Frankfurt won 2-1 in Munich last season, it was the first defeat for Julian Nagelsmann as Bayern coach and the first Bundesliga win for Oliver Glasner as Eintracht coach.

And a season later, the winner of the duel in Munich is Glasner, despite the division of points.

Eintracht remains within striking distance of the Champions League ranks, Bayern now see the competition very clearly in the rear-view mirror.

Makoto means experience:

You need speed, discipline and experience against Bayern.

Makoto Hasebe stands for the latter.

At 39 years and ten days, the Japanese is now the oldest outfield player ever to play for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga.

Ex-coach Adi Hütter had already said goodbye to his retirement in December 2020: "Makoto will be 37, in the summer his football career will almost certainly be over." Well, Hütter is in the past at Eintracht, Hasebe is still there.

Müller 300:

He was "the face of the club" according to Nagelsmann's offensive power Müller before the game.

However, this seemed quite contrite in the first 30 minutes, after half an hour a Müller shot from a promising position was blocked.

His assist for the Sané goal was a round: The 161st assist in the Bundesliga, paired with 139 of his own goals, resulted in a good number of 300 goals in the 426th Bundesliga game of the 33-year-old Bayern captain.

In the final phase, the facial features of the veteran became more strained again.

It's getting uncomfortable:

For the second time this season, FC Bayern have not won three Bundesliga games in a row.

Even after the 26th competitive game, it is still the case that they have only suffered one defeat, but the lack of courage and the lack of offensive ideas in the past few games will set off the alarm bells among those responsible in Munich.

Sport director Hasan Salihamidžić had already raged after the game against Cologne, and his mood is likely to have deteriorated further.

Mainz (Cup), Wolfsburg and Bochum (League) are the next three opponents.

Then it goes on in the Champions League, with Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain.
