The glory days of Scotland's Aberdeen FC are long gone.

In 1983 the club won the European Cup Winners' Cup after beating Real Madrid in the final.

Bayern Munich were knocked out in the semifinals.

The coach back then: Alex Ferguson.

Jim Goodwin, one of his numerous successors, will not lead the "Dons" back to Europe, that is certain after the 0:6 at Hibernian Edinburgh.

It took the Scottish Premiership side just 19 minutes after the final whistle to sack their manager.

After the humiliating cup defeat last Monday at sixth division club (!) Darvel, Goodwin was only on probation in office, and another slap in the league meant he was out.

The players hadn't even come out of the dressing room when word broke that Goodwin's tenure had ended after almost a year.

In a statement on the club's website, Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack didn't mince his words.

“I met Jim after the game.

Jim is a thoroughly decent fellow.

He came up to me, hugged me and said, This is not good enough.

He gave everything he could but the simple facts are that since coming back from the World Cup break the results are totally unacceptable and the away record is abysmal.

I feel for the fans too.

I am embarrassed, humiliated and shocked by the events of the past week.

So do our fans, and I can only apologize to them.”

Aberdeen are seventh in the table and have conceded eleven goals in their last two league games.

Before the season, the four-time Scottish champions, Lewis Ferguson (Bologna FC) and Calvin Ramsey (Liverpool FC), had sold their two greatest talents for more than eight million euros, but only reinvested a fraction of the income.
