The organizers of the 2023 European Games in Poland have decided that they will not allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the event that will take place in June in Poland.
Already in November 2022, the European Olympic Committees (EOC), declared that such participation "is not possible under the current conditions" and now the official stamp has arrived.
The IOC recently announced its willingness to consider accepting Russians and Belarusians for the Asian Games and to give them the opportunity to qualify for the Olympics in Paris, after an invitation had already been sent to those countries, all on the condition that those athletes declare that they do not support the war in Ukraine and comply with regulations against doping in sports.
Regarding the apparent decision of the IOC, the organizers of the European Games declared unequivocally: "Any possible decision regarding the potential participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in the EOC competitions will not apply to the 2023 European Games in Krakow."
Almost a year has passed since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, when in most sports, Russian athletes cannot take part and some have also been prosecuted for several cases of supporting the war.
It should be noted that in the field of tennis they were allowed to play, on the condition that not every symbol of the state appears.
The European Games, the largest sports event on the continent held once every four years, will take place from June 21 to July 2, with 26 different sports, from which it will be possible to qualify for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
