Djokovic winner at the Australian Open: the 22 crazy numbers of the "Djoker" career

2023-01-29T12:41:01.401Z

Winner of Tsitsipas in the final, the former and new world No. 1 came back up to Nadal and his 22 Grand Slams. Insatiable, the Serb,

Difficult in a few figures or a few lines to summarize the incredible career of Novak Djokovic, winner of his 10th Australian Open synonymous with 22nd Grand Slam.

Like his great rival Rafael Nadal, whose equal he has once again become in terms of Majors, the 35-year-old Serb holds a plethora of records.

And intends to glean those he misses…

1.

The boss regains the place of world No. 1, lost in large part because of his intermittent status in 2022 due to non-vaccination against Covid-19.

The Serb will therefore begin a 374th week at the top of the ATP rankings.

Roger Federer (310) and Pete Sampras (286) complete the podium.

Rafael Nadal, he spent "only" 209 weeks as world No. 1.

3.

This is one of the rare lacks of the “Djoker” prize list.

Djokovic dreams of winning Olympic gold for Serbia but he could never do better than 3rd at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing (4th in 2012 and 2021, beaten in the 1st round in 2016 by Del Potro).

4.

The Tsitsipas-scorer is one of only four players in history (along with Emerson, Laver and Nadal) to have won all four Majors at least twice.

He is the only one to have won two Grand Slam tournaments at least seven times (7 Wimbledon and 10 Australian Open).

5.

Djokovic is the only player in the Open era to have lifted five major titles consecutively: Wimbledon 2015, US Open 2015, Masters 2015, Australian Open 2016, Roland-Garros 2016. He is also the only champion since Rod Laver in 1969 to have simultaneously held the trophies of the four major tournaments.

But unlike the Australian, the Serb did not achieve this in a single year but straddled two seasons.

A performance called Djoko Slam or Nole Slam.

7.

Novak Djokovic finished the season 7 times in 1st place in the world.

A record.

Pete Sampras, second, completed 6 while Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are at 5, like Jimmy Connors.

10.

Djokovic has won his last ten matches against Tsitsipas (11 out of 13 in total), including two Grand Slam finals.

That of this Sunday in Australia and that of Roland-Garros 2021 after having for the first time recovered a handicap from two sets to nothing in the final of a Major.

11.

As Nadal is the master of Roland-Garros (14 titles), Djokovic is that of Melbourne (10)… among men.

He still has one more step to become the equal of Margaret Court, crowned eleven times in singles in the 1960s and 1970s.

14.

Deprived of the US Open 2022 because of his vaccination status, the world No. 1 remains on 14 consecutive Grand Slam victories (Wimbledon and Melbourne).

His last defeat in the category dates back to Roland-Garros 2022 and a quarter-final loss against Nadal.

15.

Fifteen years separate the first and last (to date) Grand Slam won by Djokovic, both in Australia.

In 2008, then aged 20, the Serb beat Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in four sets.

19.

Even the best can't help it.

Tsitsipas is the 19th player in the top 5 in a row beaten by Djokovic in the state of Victoria.

22.

The Serb won his 22nd Grand Slam title in Melbourne, where he won for the tenth time.

With 10 Australian Open, 7 Wimbledon, 3 US Open and 2 Roland-Garros, Djokovic thus returns to the height of Rafael Nadal, holder of 22 Grand Slam titles.

Federer, who is the only one of the three already retired, is 3rd with 20 coronations.

28.

So the streak is still on… Djokovic has been unbeaten for five years and 28 games in Melbourne.

The Serb has not lost since 2018 when he was eliminated by South Korean Chung Hyeon in the round of 16 as he returned from a long period of unavailability after an elbow injury.

30.

Novak Djokovic leads in his duels with his two great rivals Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.

The Serb dominates by a short head the Spaniard (30-29) and more widely the Swiss (27-23).

33.

With 33 Grand Slam finals played, the Serb is also ahead of Roger Federer (31) and Rafael Nadal (30).

41.

The man with 22 Grand Slams has not lost on Australian soil (Melbourne and others) for 41 games.

47.8

.

When he participates in a Grand Slam, Djokovic reaches the final almost half the time (47.8%).

Only Björn Borg (57.1) has a better ratio.

Nadal (44.8), Laver (40) and Federer (38.3) are behind the Belgrader.

89.

Since his first appearance in 2005, Djokovic has won 89 times on the courts of Melbourne Park.

Only Roger Federer (102) did better.

93.

Mr. Melbourne won his 93rd title on the ATP Tour.

In addition to his 22 Grand Slams, Djokovic can be proud in particular of 6 Masters (a record tied with Federer) and 38 Masters 1000 (he has won them all at least twice).

67 of his 93 trophies (including 13 Grand Slams) have been won on hard courts.

353.

The Serb holds (with his inseparable rival Rafael Nadal) the record for the longest final in Australia.

In 2012, the two men had spent 354 minutes (5h53) on the court before Djokovic managed to win after the 5th set (5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7, 7- 5).

1,243

. Djokovic played 1,243 matches on the ATP Tour for 1,037 wins and 206 losses.

He is one of five players (along with Connors, Federer, Lendl and Nadal) to have won over 1,000 games in his career.

2017.

For twelve years, 2017 is the only year in which Djokovic has not won at least one Grand Slam title, with a 2nd round in Melbourne and quarters in Paris and London.

Injured in the elbow, he had to end his season in July.

153 531 608.

Thanks to the check for 1.92 million euros awarded to the winner, the Monegasque resident now has more than 153.5 million euros in career earnings.
