The EA Schongau won again at the end of the Bayernliga main round.

However, this has consequences for the championship round in terms of “derbies”.

Schongau – The EA Schongau ended the Bayernliga main round with mixed feelings.

The “Mammuts” were overjoyed after beating their direct competitor, VfE Ulm/Neu-Ulm, 2-1 after extra time.

With the two points, the Mammuts overtook the Koenigsbrunners in front of them, so that they finished the lap in third place.

With that, however, the EAS slipped into the less attractive championship round group B, in which they meet Amberg, Erding and again Ulm/Neu-Ulm.

The Schongauers have to do without derbies against Peißenberg and Kempten, who play in Group A together with Miesbach and Königsbrunn.

EA Schongau finishes Bayernliga in third place

"In extra time I caught myself briefly wishing that we might lose," admitted EAS team manager Martin Resch after the final siren.

All in all, however, the joy of the impressive placement outweighed it.

"Of course, the derbies with many spectators at home against Peißenberg and Kempten would have been nicer, but we'll take it as it is," said EAS coach Markus Ratberger about the constellation in Group B. The championship round for the "Mammuts" begins on Friday “ with an away game against Erding, on Sunday the home game against Amberg is coming up.

The championship round

The teams in places one to eight in the main round move into the championship round.

There will be played in two groups (home and away leg).

The round lasts from February 3rd to February 24th.

Group A:

TEV Miesbach, EHC Koenigsbrunn, TSV Peißenberg, ESC Kempten.

Group B:

ERSC Amberg, EA Schongau, VfE Ulm/Neu-Ulm, TSV Erding.

After the championship round, the play-off quarter-finals (best-of-3) will begin on March 3rd.

Pairings: First Group A vs. Fourth Group B;

First Group B vs. Fourth Group A;

Second Group A vs. Third Group B;

Second Group B vs. Third Group A. This is followed by the semifinals (from March 10th) and the final (from March 24th).

The Bavarian league champion plays against the champion of the regional league south/west from the promoted team in the Oberliga.

However, Ratberger only partially agreed with the presentation of his troops against Ulm.

"We weren't ready in the first 40 minutes.

The first third in particular was a disaster,” the coach said angrily.

EAS goalkeeper Daniel Blankenburg kept the home side in the game with some good saves.

However, the Schongau goalkeeper had no chance when Stefan Rodrigues made it 0-1 (14th).

Immediately after the end of the first penalty time against the "Mammuts" they equalized: Matthias Müller (17th) punished a mistake by Ulm's keeper Max Güßbacher with the 1:1.

In the middle third, both teams made numerous mistakes in the game structure, which invited the respective opponent to counterattack.

The two strong goalkeepers all ironed out the mistakes, so that no goals were scored in the round.

Only in the final round did the game pick up speed again.

Mass brawl in the final third after a foul

It got really heated when Rodrigues committed a foul on Marius Klein (53').

The result was a - short - mass brawl and a game penalty against the Ulmer.

"The action was absolutely unnecessary," said VfE coach Martin Jainz.

Although Klein had to be treated, he was later able to continue playing.

However, the "mammoths" didn't know how to use the majority, which was even two men for 90 seconds.

It remained 1-1 after regular time.

In extra time, Ulm's Florian Döring (61st) hit the post.

Shortly thereafter, EAS started a counterattack, which captain Jonas Lautenbacher (64th) successfully completed with the winning goal to make it 2-1.

"In overtime we were lucky," said Ratberger.
