Lyon formalized on Sunday the transfer to English club Chelsea of their right-back Malo Gusto for 30 million euros and five million bonuses over the duration of his seven-and-a-half-year contract, until 2030.

Before joining the London team, currently tenth in the Premier League, Gusto (19) will stay with the 9th in Ligue 1 in the form of a loan until the end of this season.

Born in Décines-Charpieu, in the Lyon metropolitan area, Malo Gusto joined Olympique Lyonnais at the age of 14 from FC Bourgoin-Jallieu.

But everything accelerated quickly for the defender, initially trained as a midfielder, who signed his first professional contract in December 2020 before starting in Ligue 1 against Saint-Etienne in January 2021. He then won at the expense of Léo Dubois, transferred this summer to Galatasaray, to record 77 professional matches in all competitions.

"

Olympique Lyonnais regrets not having been able to keep one of its great hopes trained at the Academy but remains however happy to be able to count on him during this second part of the season

", comments the club in a press release.

OL could hardly refuse a transfer of such an amount despite their desire, expressed last summer to the Lyon public and ultra groups in particular, to want to rely on the DNA of the club.

Lyon thus recorded the returns of Alexandre Lacazette and Corentin Tolisso to revive after a modest 8th place in the final championship standings in 2022, depriving the Lyonnais of the European Cup.

In recent hours, the activity of Olympique Lyonnais on the transfer market has accelerated with the official loan Saturday of Romain Faivre in Lorient, which followed that of Karl Toko Ekambi in Rennes, Thursday.

But OL, which is looking to regenerate its workforce, is also working towards arrivals.

After Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes refused to join the Rhone club, preferring Wolverhampton in England, OL announced that they were in contact with Jeffinho (24), a Brazilian striker from Botafogo, whose new club owner, the American John Textor is the majority shareholder.

Olympique Lyonnais has announced that he must be in Lyon on Monday to pass his medical examination in order to be loaned.

OL are also on the verge of concluding the transfer of Swedish striker from Heerenveen (1st Dutch div.) Amin Sarr (21), and also the recruitment of Frenchman Wilson Isidor (22), currently at Lokomotiv Moscow after being passed through Rennes and Monaco.
