The women's handball team at HSG Freising-Neufahrn celebrated an important 23:20 home win against Gundelfingen and thus draw new hope.

Freising

– The women’s handball team at HSG Freising-Neufahrn was finally able to celebrate again: At home they beat TV Gundelfingen 23:20 (14:13) in the lower league duel and, thanks to their second win of the season, moved up to tenth place.

The gap to the relegation relegation is only three points.

"It was a big lift from my heart," said coach Simon Klawe.

"We had the necessary bit of luck in the decisive phases, the win is enormously important for self-confidence."

Two top performers struck

In the early stages, things were anything but smooth.

The top performers Anna Sophia Meyerhofer and Melanie Kapser were both battered and, like their teammates, needed a little to find their way into the game.

After various technical errors, it was soon 1:5 and after ten minutes 4:8 from the point of view of the HSG.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

But the hostesses threw everything into the balance.

On the left wing Theresa Obermeier kept replacing Kapser and set good accents, Alina Schindler showed a strong performance in the backcourt.

After the 7:12, Freising-Neufahrn started to catch up, which reached its climax with Melanie Kapser's goal to make it 14:13 shortly before the half-time whistle.

Thanks to a strong defense, the girls kept winning the ball and attacking quickly - Francesca Volz in particular used these to score easy goals.

HSG is closing at the back

In the second period, Gundelfingen regained the lead, at times it was 17:19.

But the next three goals belonged to the Klawe squad - and the 20:20 was to remain the last goal conceded: In the remaining 14 minutes, HSG sealed their own goal.

Goalkeeper Dorothea Schlegel played a big part in this with a few saves, including two penalty kicks.

In the end it was enough for the important home win.

The HSG goals threw:

Francesca Volz 8/3, Melanie Kapser 5, Theresa Obermeier 2, Anna Sophia Meyerhofer 2, Luise Schlegel 2, Maren Müller 1, Carolin Vopel 1, Franziska Edler 1, Lisa Gruber 1.
