Leaders of many countries on the continent called not to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to take part in the next Olympic Games • "The International Olympic Committee encourages more murders"

Political and sports leaders from a growing number of European countries have expressed opposition to the move of participating Russian and Belarusian athletes, and have joined the call of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to consider a boycott of the Olympic Games in Paris, if indeed this happens.

The Prime Minister of Estonia, Kaja Kalas, claimed that the decision was "politically and morally wrong", and insisted that it was "time to strengthen isolation, and not surrender to Russia. Sport is a tool in Russia's propaganda machine, ignoring it means standing on the side of aggression."

Today (Monday), Zelensky's advisor Mykhailo Podoliak launched an attack on the ethics of the IOC (International Olympic Committee) and its president Thomas Bach on Twitter: "He promotes war, murder and destruction," he wrote and added: "They watch with pleasure as Russia destroys Ukraine and after Then they are offered a platform to promote the genocide and encourage more murders. Obviously, Russian money buys Olympic hypocrisy, it has no smell of Ukrainian blood. Right, Mr. Bach?"

The Olympic Council of Asia recently confirmed its willingness to welcome athletes from Russia and Belarus to its competitions, including the postponed Asian Games, to allow them to achieve criteria for the Paris Olympic Games.

The Polish Minister of Sports, Kamil Bortnichuk, claimed that he "cannot imagine such a scenario".

According to the Polish IAF news agency, Bortnichuk also said that "Poland and Britain are at the forefront" of efforts to form a coalition against the participation of Russia and Belarus in Paris 2024. If athletes from both countries are allowed to compete, Bortnichuk said Poland and other countries "may issue an ultimatum."

"It will depend on whether it will be possible to create an effective coalition, countries without which the games will not be able to move forward," Bortnichuk said.

The Polish Olympic Committee (PKOL) is among several national Olympic committees in Europe that have also expressed their opposition to the possibility of Russia and Belarus participating in Paris 2024.

"Until the barbaric war in Ukraine ends, no Russian and Belarusian athletes should participate in international events, including the Olympic Games," said the president of the Polish Olympic Committee, Andrzej Krasnicki.

The Norwegian Sports Confederation (NIF) emphasized that its position regarding the ban on Russian and Belarusian athletes remains "unchanged" and "stands firm".

"No final decisions have been made by the IOC on the matter," the statement said.

"It is important for us to continuously monitor the situation and maintain a close dialogue with the organization that is its members on this issue."
