The transfer window in Europe's top leagues closed tonight (between Tuesday and Wednesday), and it's time to sum up the month of January, which ended in a complete storm.

The transfer record in the UK was broken tonight right at the buzzer when Chelsea and Benfica completed the transfer of Enso Fernandez for 121 million euros, but as we know, this was not the only deal for the Blues in recent weeks.

So what does the January window look like in Europe?

Here are the amounts invested in the top leagues and luxury clubs during the month.

Chelsea is of course far above all of them and together with the many transactions it made in the summer, it invested 629 million euros - the transfer record of a team in one season, which belonged to Barcelona who invested 380 million euros in the 2017/18 season.

In January alone, Chelsea added eight players for a total amount of about 329 million euros, including Michail Modric who was purchased from Shakhtar.

It is followed by Southampton, who purchased seven players for approximately 64 million euros, and the leader of the table, Arsenal, ranks third with an investment of approximately 60 million euros in Aandro Trussard, Jorginho and Jacob Cibiur.

The Premier League teams paid a total of 830 million euros in the last month for the addition of 91 players.

After the English and by a huge gap stands the French "Ligue 1", whose teams paid about 125 million euros in January for 75 players.

In January, the German Bundesliga invested approximately 68 million euros in the purchase of 54 players, and you may be surprised to learn that the top leagues in Spain and Italy are in 6th and 7th places respectively, because the teams in the United States and Argentina invested more.

In Spain about 32 million euros were paid for 50 different transfers and in Italy about 31 million euros in the window where 120 players moved, while in the United States players arrived in transfers for about 58 million euros and in Argentina players were purchased for a total of 34 million euros.

We emphasize that the amounts and numbers do not include the amount of the contracts and, of course, revenues that came from the sales of players and allowed the teams to pay, so that there are clubs that invested sums that were not unemployed, but brought in no less and even left the window with a profit.
